New city, new house, new garden…
Where to start?
We’re not starting from a completely new slate. When we move lock, stock and barrel into a new home or town, we bring some knowledge with us. We bring memories, lessons learned and thoughts of plants and paths we’ve lived with and built over the years.
Remember, you’re bringing expertise in areas your neighbors might be willing to learn and “buy” into your knowledge.
Learning to garden from neighbors is a highly effective way to gain hyper-local knowledge, with expert neighbors often providing advice on region-specific soil, climate conditions, and pest management. Building these connections can start by complimenting their plants, which frequently leads to sharing seeds, seedlings, or surplus produce.
Valuable Local Knowledge
Experienced neighbors know what grows best in your specific microclimate, including local plant pests, proper planting times, and how to improve local soil.
